BW Book Club Holds Informational Meeting
The BW Book Club will hold a short informational meeting this Thursday, August 23, at 3:30 in room B323.
The Belleville West Book Club is open to students in all grade levels. The group meets four times during the school year (in October, December, January, and April) to discuss books selected by the club members. Discussion sessions are held after school at The Abbey on West Main Street.
All interested students are encouraged to attend this meeting to learn more about the group.
Auditions for the Fall Play Take Place This Week
Auditions for A Midsummer Night’s Dream—the 2018 fall play—will be held this Tuesday, August 21, at 3:45 in the BW Performing Arts Center. Roles are available for approximately two dozen young men and women. Students from all grade levels are encouraged to audition.
Audition packets are located on the theatre bulletin board and outside the English office (room B331). The packets include material to help students prepare for the audition. Applications for student directors and student technical directors are also available.
English Department Offers Free Tutoring Services
Any student who would like some extra assistance with an English class can now receive tutoring through the Belleville West English Department. Tutoring will be offered during all lunch hours (3A, 3B, 4A, 4B, 5A, and 5B) each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. To attend a tutoring session, the student simply needs to request a pass from his/her English teacher.
English Department Welcomes the Class of 2022
Members of the class of 2022 enjoyed their first day at Belleville West on Wednesday, August 17. Students attended a shortened version of each of their classes, met their teachers, received information about various procedures at West (using the library, finding buses, getting lunch), and learned about the array of extracurricular opportunities at the school. The freshmen, along with all other students, will have their first full day on Thursday, August 16.
Belleville West Theatre Announces Fall Play Auditions
Belleville West Little Theatre will open the 2018-2019 season with A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the beloved comedy by William Shakespeare. Auditions for the play will be held after school on Tuesday, August 21.
The show requires a cast of approximately two dozen men and women. Some of the roles will be cast in a gender-blind manner, meaning that the parts can be played by either men or women. Students in all grade levels are encouraged to get involved.
Auditions packets are available on the theatre bulletin board (located in the hallway by the Performing Arts Center) and outside the English office (room B331).

Speech Team Members Earn National Accolades
At the NSDA (National Speech and Debate Association) national tournament, held June 17 through 22 in Fort Lauderdale, Belleville West was named one of this year’s “Speech Schools of Excellence.” That distinction is presented to the top 20 schools in the contest.
The following students placed in the top 25 in their events:
JoJo Holm — 11th place in Extemporaneous Speaking
Jaylon Muchison and Cassidy Farrar — 11th place in Duo Interpretation
Maxwell Juhas — 13th place in Extemporaneous Speaking
Delaney Holliday — 17th place in Poetry Interpretation
Wade Cook and Cassidy Farrar — 22nd place in Duo Interpretation
