West Students Finish Fourth Triad with 3.2 Million Pages of Pleasure Reading
Once again this year, the BW English Department challenged the freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior classes to each read ONE MILLION PAGES of pleasure reading during the school year. At two-thirds of the way through the year, how are our four classes doing?
At the end of the first semester, the FRESHMAN CLASS has already PASSED THEIR GOAL, with 1,100,094 pages of pleasure reading! At this rate, the freshman class can read more than 1.5 million pages by the end of this school year! The freshmen read 314,210 pages in the fourth triad, their best triad so far and an average of 564 pages per freshman. These freshman classes read the most pages per student in the fourth triad:
Ms. Thurnau—first hour: 1312 pages per student
Mr. Garland—third hour: 1075 pages per student
Ms. Thurnau—second hour: 1056 pages per student
Mr. Thurnau—fifth hour: 1032 pages per student
Ms. Ursani—fifth hour: 915 pages per student
Mr. Garland—second hour: 848 pages per student
Ms. Ursani—sixth hour: 839 pages per student
Ms. Ursani—seventh hour: 833 pages per student
Ms. Thurnau—sixth hour: 730 pages per student
Mrs. Hunter—seventh hour: 615 pages per student
Mrs. Hunter—second hour: 526 pages per student
At the end of the first semester, the SENIOR CLASS maintains its standing in second place, with 805,273 pages of pleasure reading—more than 80% of the way to the goal! The seniors read 183,202 pages of pleasure reading in the fourth triad, an average of 430 pages per senior. These senior classes read the most pages per student in the fourth triad:
Mr. Lodle—sixth hour: 1648 pages per student
Mr. Schobert—first hour: 928 pages per student
Ms. Thurna—seventh hour: 829 pages per student
Ms. Guebert—sixth hour: 704 pages per student
Mrs. Story—fourth hour: 503 pages per student
The JUNIOR CLASS remains in third place, with 664,630 pages of pleasure reading—which means that they’ve slipped under pace to reach the goal this year. The juniors read 159,476 pages of pleasure reading in the fourth triad, an average of 320 pages per junior. These junior classes read the most pages per student in the fourth triad:
Mr. Brunner—second hour: 806 pages per student
Mr. Garland—sixth hour: 736 pages per student
Ms. Chalmers—fourth hour: 629 pages per student
Mr. Schobert—third hour: 547 pages per student
Mr. Brunner—first hour: 524 pages per student
The SOPHOMORE CLASS is still at the back of the pack, with 614,198 pages of pleasure reading—getting closer but still under pace to reach one million pages this year. The sophomores read 169,262 pages in the fourth triad, an average of 363 pages per sophomore. (This is the best triad so far for the sophomores! If they continue to increase their reading pace in the fifth and sixth triads, the sophomores can still reach one million pages this year.) These sophomore classes read the most pages per student in the fourth triad:
Mr. Johnson—second hour: 997 pages per student
Ms. Schloesser—second hour: 735 pages per student
Mrs. Pettus—third hour: 598 pages per student
Ms. Schloesser—first hour: 488 pages per student
Ms. Ursani—first hour: 457 pages per student
The teachers in the ENGLISH DEPARTMENT read 22,086 pages in the fourth triad, their best triad this year, with an average of 1104 pages per English teacher.
Can the freshmen reach one million pages by the end of the fourth triad? Can the seniors catch them? Can the juniors and sophomores increase their reading pace? Visit the library, find some good books, and keep reading!
