Speech Team Advances Seven Events to State Tournament
The BW Speech Team took third place at the IHSA Sectional Championship at Normal Community West High School. The tournament was held virtually on Saturday, February 13.
The following students won individual awards and will advance to next weekend’s IHSA State Tournament:
Jerry Aplin and Diego Reed — first place in Humorous Duet Acting
Elise Moore — first place in Oratorical Declamation
Khaleo Price — first place in Special Occasion Speaking
Sarah Hauser and Audrey O’Renic — second place in Dramatic Duet Acting
Diego Reed — second place in Humorous Interpretation
Abby Barger — third place in Dramatic Interpretation
Elise Moore — third place in Radio Speaking
The speech team coaches are Mr. Adam Jenkins, Mr. Russ Reidelberger, Ms. Julie Schloesser, Ms. Anna Kurtz, Mr. Tyler Herron, and Mrs. Leigh Reidelberger.
Page One Seeks Student Writing and Art Submissions
Page One, the Belleville West literary and art magazine, is currently accepting work for the 2020-2021 edition. Students may submit short stories, essays, poems, photograph, and art. Just visit the Page One website to submit work and to view previous editions of the magazine. Submissions are due by Friday, February 26.
Annual Children’s Play Streams This Week
Belleville West Little Theatre is excited to continue its streaming season with the 2021 children’s play, Stuart Little. The show streams this Friday and Saturday, February 12 and 13, at 7:00 p.m. Simply scan the code on the poster above to purchase your ticket!
Speech Team Claims Regional Title
The BW Speech Team started the post-season by winning the IHSA Regional Championship at Chatham. The tournament was held virtually on Saturday, February 6.
The following students won individual awards and will advance to next weekend’s IHSA Sectional:

Student Literary Magazine Earns National Awards
The 2019-2020 digital edition of Page One, the Belleville West literary and art magazine, recently received First Place with Special Merit in the American Scholastic Press Association contest. In addition, Page One was one of six literary and art magazines recognized as Most Outstanding High School Magazine. Olivia Wilkes earned Outstanding Photograph for her photo “Cruise Ships.” You can check out last year’s award-winning edition of Page One at this link. The Page One adviser is Ms. Amber Thurnau.

Auditions for Spring Musical Now Open
Auditions for the spring musical, Songs for a New World, are now open. Interested students should complete this form and submit the audition video by Friday, February 12.
Speech Team Scores Fifth in Chicago-Area Tournament
The BW Speech Team finished the regular season with a fifth-place finish at the Scheidecker Memorial Tournament, where they competed against some of the top schools from the Chicago area. The tournament was held virtually on Saturday, January 30.
The following students won individual awards in the varsity division:
Jerry Aplin and Diego Reed — first place in Humorous Duet Acting
Diego Reed — first place in Original Comedy
Sarah Hauser — second place in Poetry Reading
Abby Barger — fifth place in Dramatic Interpretation
Audrey O’Renic — fifth place in Prose Reading

Speech Team Finishes with Eight Students in League’s Top 25
At the conclusion of each year’s contests, the Southern Illinois Speech and Acting League (SISAL) names the top 25 performers of the season. This year, eight Belleville West students were named to the group. They are seniors Anna Buescher and Audrey O’Renic; juniors Abby Barger, Grace Kearns, Gabe Kurfman, Elise Moore, Deigo Reed, and Dallas Watson. Congratulations!
