March Madness Ends this Week
In celebration of March Madness, the BW English Department is sponsoring a contest for students to select their favorite book from the BW Library. Each week in March, students can vote for their favorite books by visiting this link. Every student who participates will be entered in a drawing, with the prize winners announced at the end of the month.

Contest Drama Wins Sectional Title

Congratulations to the cast and crew of the 2022 Belleville West Contest Drama, Ripcord, on their victory at the IHSA Sectional Drama Contest at Glenwood High School on Saturday, March 19. Special recognition goes to Jerry Aplin, Abby Barger, Elise Moore, and Diego Reed, who were named to the prestigious All-Sectional Drama Cast. Lighting technician Ayden Thurnau and sound technician Jenna Heidbreder were named to the All-Sectional Technical Crew.
The production now advances to the IHSA State Drama Tournament at Oak Lawn High School on Friday and Saturday, March 25 and 26. Before the state contest, the cast and crew will present an encore performance at Belleville West on Wednesday, March 23, at 7:00 p.m.
Little Theatre Stages New Comedy This Thursday

Belleville West Little Theatre will present the annual contest drama on Thursday, March 17. This year’s offering is Ripcord, a new comedy by David Lindsay-Abaire.
A sunny room on an upper floor is prime real estate in the Bristol Place Senior Living Facility. When the cantankerous Abby (senior Elise Moore) is forced to share her quarters with new arrival Marilyn (senior Abby Barger), she has no choice but to get rid of the infuriatingly chipper woman by any means necessary.
A seemingly harmless bet between the old women quickly escalates into a dangerous game of one-upmanship. The bet reveals not just the tenacity of these worthy opponents but also deeper truths that each would rather remain hidden.
The contest play offers a unique opportunity for drama students. The play must be performed within a 40-minute time period, and student technicians have 20 minutes to set and clear the stage for performance. Ripcord will compete against other area schools to win a berth in the IHSA state tournament. This year’s sectional competition will be held on Friday and Saturday, March 18 and 19.
The production is directed by Mr. John Lodle and Mr. Jamie Klein. The student directors are seniors Carmen Baldridge, Kacie Denton, Josh McWhorter, Khaleo Price, and Junior Emma Loewe. Student technical directors are seniors Morgan Elliff, Mason Hagarty, Melissa Hagarty, Alexis Herbeck, Chloe Sierra, Ayden Thurnau, and Michael Wagner.
The March 17 performance is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the Belleville West Performing Arts Center, located at 4063 Frank Scott Parkway West. Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for adults. Advance tickets are available for purchase now.
