Little Theatre Presents a New Play Based on a Favorite Novel

The Belleville West Little Theatre will present its annual fall play on Thursday through Saturday, October 12 through 14. This year’s production is the new drama A Monster Calls. Belleville West High School is thrilled to be one of the first non-professional theatres to stage this play.
Conor (junior Theo Rickert) has the same dream every night, ever since his mother (senior Ryann Gordon) first fell ill, ever since she started treatments that don’t quite seem to be working.
But tonight is different.
Tonight, when he wakes, there’s a visitor (junior Eric Perschbacher) at his window.
It’s ancient, elemental, a force of nature.
And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor.
It wants the truth.
A Monster Calls was written by Sally Cookson and Adam Peck. It was adapted from the best-selling novel by Patrick Ness.
The production is directed by Mr. John Lodle and Mr. Jamie Klein. The student directors are seniors Ravi Douglas, Ryann Gordon, and Camryn Houk and juniors Natalie Hall, Lukas Pellmann, and Jordyn Struense. The student technical directors are juniors Quin Brown, Teddi Lacey, Melaina Robison, Allison Sheldon, and Sean Teutrine and sophomore Noah Hernandez.
Performances are at 7:00 each evening in the Belleville West Performing Arts Center, located at 4063 Frank Scott Parkway West. Advance tickets are available for purchase here.

DON’T CRY FOR ME by Daniel Black
As Jacob lies dying, he begins to write a letter to his only son, Isaac. They have not met or spoken in many years, and there are things that Isaac must know. Stories about his ancestral legacy in rural Arkansas that extend back to slavery. Secrets from Jacob’s tumultuous relationship with Isaac’s mother and the shame he carries from the dissolution of their family. Tragedies that informed Jacob’s role as a father. But most of all, Jacob must share with Isaac the unspoken truths that reside in his heart. He must give voice to the trauma that Isaac has inherited. And he must create a space for the two to find peace.
