Students Chat with Author through BW Virtual Visit

Belleville West students participated in a virtual visit with author Ruta Sepetys on Wednesday, May 8. Sepetys is the author of the YA historical fiction novels Between Shades of Gray, Out of the Easy, Salt to the Sea, and I Must Betray You. She shared her story with students and reminded them of the importance of learning their own stories. Several Belleville West students also had the opportunity to ask questions during the visit.
2023-2024 Literary and Art Magazine Now on Sale

The 2023-2024 edition of Page One, the Belleville West literary and art magazine, is on sale today and tomorrow during lunch hours in the cafeteria. The full-color magazine is available at the yearbook table for just $3.
Yearbook Distribution Set for This Week

Yearbook distribution is set for this Wednesday and Thursday, May 8 and May 9, during lunch hours. Forgot to order a book? No problem! Extras will be on sale during this time for $60. Payment may be made with cash or a check payable to Belleville West. Questions? See Mrs. Short in room B314.
English Department Hosts Annual Reading Celebration

This Thursday, May 9, the Belleville West English Department will hold its annual reading celebration day. Activities will include a book swap, book chats, reading time, and activities hosted in the BW Library. Books and other reading-related prizes will be awarded throughout the day.
Little Theatre Production Earns 13 Nominations for St. Louis Awards

Congratulations to the cast, crew, orchestra, and directors of the Belleville West production of The SpongeBob Musical! On Wednesday, May 1, the show received thirteen nominations for St. Louis High School Musical Theatre Awards.

Belleville West Students Share Reading Recommendations

Throughout this year, members of the BW chapter of the National English Honor Society are creating book displays in the BW Library. The final set of books includes historical fiction, romance, fantasy, science fiction, and the novels of Jennifer Lynn Barnes.
Theatre Season Closes this Weekend with Spring Musical

Belleville West Little Theatre will close the 2023-2024 season with The SpongeBob Musical, a comedy based on the beloved animated series.
When the citizens of Bikini Bottom discover that a volcano will soon erupt and destroy their humble home, SpongeBob and his friends must come together to save the fate of their undersea world. With lives hanging in the balance and all hope lost, a most unexpected hero rises up. The power of optimism really can save the world!
Performances are this Thursday through Saturday, April 25 through 27, at 7:00 p.m. in the Belleville West Performing Arts Center. Advance tickets are available for purchase now.
Journalism Students Advance to State Tournament
On Saturday, April 5, students from the Hy News (the Belleville West newspaper) and the Bellevinois (the Belleville West yearbook) competed in the IHSA Sectional Journalism Contest. The following students placed in the competition:
Emily Redden – first place in Feature Writing
Colton Walls – third place in Editorial Cartooning
Jack Stokes – fourth place in Newspaper Design
Jayla Hunt-Williams – fifth place in Headline Writing
Jayla Hunt-Williams – sixth place in Copy Editing
Eric Perschbacher – sixth place in Editorial Writing
Sofia Price – sixth place in Yearbook Copy Writing
Emily Redden and Colton Walls now advance to the IHSA State Journalism Contest on Friday, April 26.
