Thespian Troupe Welcomes New Members

After the final performance of the fall play on October 5, Belleville West Thespian Troupe #369 welcomed two new members: seniors Abby Siegel and Jordyn Struense. Each of these students has devoted more than 300 hours to the theatre program at Belleville West, with at least 150 of those hours behind the scenes (on technical crews, as student directors, or at work days). Congratulations!
Belleville West Students Share Reading Recommendations

Throughout this year, members of the BW chapter of the National English Honor Society are creating book displays in the BW Library. The first set of books features thrillers adapted into movies, science fiction novels, The Walking Dead series, the Harry Potter series, and books by authors Agatha Christie, Tiffany D. Jackson, Brigid Kemmerer, and Nicola Yoon.

Students Read over 750,000 Pages in First Quarter
At the start of the 2024-2025 academic year, the BW English Department challenged the freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior classes to each read ONE MILLION PAGES of pleasure reading during this school year.
The SENIOR CLASS finished the first quarter with 172,085 pages of pleasure reading. That’s an average of 439 pages per senior. These senior classes read the most pages per student:
Mr. Reidelberger, third hour – 1236 pages per student
Mr. Lodle, second hour – 885 pages per student
Mrs. Lewis, third hour – 812 pages per student
Ms. Schaab, fifth hour – 622 pages per student
Mrs. Story, third hour – 534 pages per student
Mr. Brunner, fifth hour – 500 pages per student
Mr. Armknecht, seventh hour – 494 pages per student
Mr. Brunner, sixth hour – 471 pages per student
Mr. Lodle, first hour – 470 pages per student
The JUNIOR CLASS finished the first quarter with 232,400 pages of pleasure reading. That’s an average of 531 pages per junior. These junior classes read the most pages per student:

Ms. Hodson, third hour – 973 pages per student
Mr. Brunner, second hour – 966 pages per student

NEHS Students Observe National Day of Writing

In observance of the National Day of Writing, members of the BW chapter of the National English Honor Society shared their reasons for writing. Students created “I Write Because…” posters and displayed them around the Belleville West campus on Friday.
English Classes Celebrate National Day of Writing

On Friday, October 18, Belleville West students observed the National Day of Writing. Students in classes with Ms. Chalmers, Ms. Schaab, and Mrs. Short crafted short stories in response to a variety of writing prompts.
English Department Goes Pink

Members of the Belleville West English Department dressed in pink on Thursday, October 17, to bring attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Belleville West’s annual “West Goes Pink” awareness campaign is sponsored by the Harambee organization, which is advised by English teacher Ms. Carnetta Chalmers.
Students Prepare for National Day of Writing

Each October, the National Council of Teachers of English observes the National Day of Writing. Belleville West students will celebrate on October 18 with creative writing activities in English classes.
