Little Theatre Presents Musical Comedy Next Weekend
The Belleville West Little Theatre will present its annual musical on Thursday through Saturday, April 25 through 27. This year’s production is The Drowsy Chaperone, the winner of multiple Tony Awards.
The Drowsy Chaperone features music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison. The book is by Bob Martin and Don McKellar.
With the houselights down, a man in a chair (junior Danny Laney) appears on stage and puts on his favorite record: the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical. The recording comes to life, and The Drowsy Chaperone begins as the man in the chair looks on.
Mix in two lovers on the eve of their wedding (junior Alex Johnson and junior Delaney Holliday), a bumbling best man (senior Kaylon Brown), a desperate theatre producer (senior Spencer Hansberry), a not-so-bright hostess (junior JoJo Holm), two gangsters posing as pastry chefs (juniors Maxwell Juhas and Jaylon Muchison), a misguided Don Juan (senior Isaac Williams), and an intoxicated chaperone (junior Jayden Touchette), and you have the ingredients for an evening of madcap delight.
This loving send-up of the Jazz Age musical features the songs “As We Stumble Along,” “Accident Waiting to Happen,” and “Love is Always Lovely in the End.”
The Belleville West production of The Drowsy Chaperone is directed by Mr. Nick Johnson. Mr. Michael Pond-Jones serves as the musical director. Ms. Kay Guebert is the choreographer. Mr. John Lodle is the technical director.
Performances are at 7:00 each evening in the Belleville West Performing Arts Center, located at 4063 Frank Scott Parkway West. Tickets are $8 for students, $12 for adults, and $10 for senior citizens.
